So since my last post on September 1st, everything has been going great! It's so great, in fact, I'm scared. I know other parents who've experienced the NICU can relate. She has been doing great on her new ventilator, they decreased her pressure slightly today. I've given up on changing diapers for a while because everytime I do she poops all over the place including on me. lol I figure why not take advantage of the nurses doing it for now bahaha. She rarely needs her morphine, they have started her on vitamin D. She has no more IV's YAY, however, she does require one medication that has to be injected now :( Thankfully her nurse today asked it be given in higher dosage 3x's a week instead of little doses everyday. It's epogen (sp?) for her red blood cells so it's not like she's getting a high dose of antibotics or pain meds.
Something I never really discussed with my readers is our view on blood. For religious reasons we do not accept blood. This was an issue in the beginning for the doctors because at one point her blood went from 12 to 11.9 and they wanted to transfuse her. Can you say blood happy? It was never a matter of life or death with Charlotte, but the slightest drop and the doctors want the fastest easiest fix. The lowest her hemoglobin ever got, that I am aware of, is 8. I know those doctors were shaking in their boots wondering if we were going to budge and we didn't. Think about it, a preemie baby is already fighting off alot, to add another foreign body, to me, would be even worse. If you have gotten a transfusion for your baby, I'm not saying you were wrong, I'm just saying I don't agree with doing it for my family. I can also tell you the baby across from her has had 7, has been in the hospital 1 month longer than her and is still on the jet vent and has had pneumonia and other problems. Coincidence? Maybe, but it's not a risk I'm willing to take. Ok, I'm off my soap box lol.
In 2 more weeks Miss Charlotte will be seeing the eye doctor. That, I think, will be our next hurdle. I did get to hold my princess for the first time on Sunday, what a great way to end an anniversary weekend :) And for those wondering, a few days ago her weight was at 2lb 15oz, so I'm sure by now she's crossed the 3lb mark. YAY! Keep the prayers coming, I've got to get back to work on cleaning out her bedroom. Man, where did I get all this junk from? lol
